In the Base Runners universe, $GEMS are not just tokens; they are the keys to unlocking the secrets of the digital realm, each one a piece of the puzzle that brings the Base Runners closer to their ultimate goal. However, it′s important to clarify that $GEMS are not ERC721 tokens but rather ERC404 (V2) tokens. This hybrid standard combines the unique ID and metadata of ERC721, making each $GEM non-fungible, with the transferability and divisibility of ERC20 tokens. When an ERC404 token is minted, a unique NFT is generated based on programmed rarity metrics, which can then be freely traded as a fungible token. If the fungible token is burned, the linked NFT is destroyed, adding a dynamic to NFT trading by allowing the "re-roll" of traits.

Adventurers should be warned that the rarest collectibles level 8 or more, while they can be traded as fungible tokens, will not be tradable in their original non-fungible form. This is because the ERC404 standard enables the conversion of NFTs into fungible tokens for trading purposes, but once burned, the NFT aspect of these tokens is permanently destroyed.

Minting NFTs with $CME
